Police Blotter: Cranford Man Arrested for Bicycle Theft

The Cranford Police activity for the week.

Cranford Police arrested resident Clifford Andrews, 28, for Theft Friday morning. A 14 year old male resident reported that his bicycle had been taken from the Cranford Community Center on June 11th. Following an investigation and review of surveillance footage, Cranford Police arrested Andrews at his home on Washington Place, where the bike was recovered. Andrews was processed and released with a court date of June 22nd. He was also processed on an outstanding criminal warrant from the Cranford Municipal Court.

Tuesday, June 14th

  • James Reber Jr., 26, of Westfield, Andrew Nadel, 23, of Linden, and Cristal Core, 26, of Cranford, were arrested for Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe. The group was stopped for seatbelt violations and inoperable brake lights on Centennial Avenue near the Garden State Parkway entrance. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Thomas Stiansen located a hypodermic syringe on the floor of the vehicle. All three were processed and released with a court date of June 22nd. The driver (Reber) was also cited for Failure to Inspect, Maintenance of Lamps and Failure to Exhibit Registration.  The front passenger (Nadel) was also cited for Failure to Wear Seatbelt.

Friday, June 17th

  • Cranford Police responded to .  Responding officers found the residence to be fully involved, with flames and smoke pouring from a first floor bay window.  Fire companies from Cranford, Linden, Elizabeth, Westfield and Rahway responded along with EMS Units from Cranford and Union County.  The resident, an 86 year old male, was treated and released from St. Barnabas Medical Center.
  • Anthony Lawrence, 23, of Jersey City, was arrested for Contempt of Court. Lawrence was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Centennial Avenue near Cayuga Road, when Ptl. Brian Lopez discovered a Traffic Warrant from Newark. Lawrence was processed and released to the custody of the Jersey City Police Department.

Saturday, June 18th

  • James Schoenknecht, 24, of Westfield, was arrested for Contempt of Court. Following a suspicious person investigation, Ptl. Brian Lopez arrested Schoenknecht on an outstanding traffic warrant from Garwood Municipal Court.  He was processed and released with a new court date.
  • Eduard Muntian, 46, of Linden, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Following a report of an erratic driver, Ptl. Steven D’Ambola located and stopped Muntian  on Springfield Avenue near Orange Avenue.  Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. D’Ambola arrested Muntian for DWI.  He was processed and released with a court date of June 22nd. Muntian was also cited for Careless Driving and Failure to Exhibit a Registration.
  • Derrick Brooks, 29, of Cranford, was arrested for Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest. Police responded to a dispute over a parking place on Buchanan Street, where Ptl. Brian Lopez attempted to arrest Brooks for Disorderly Conduct. Brooks fled from officers and was located in a wooded area near the end of the street. Brooks resisted arrest by striking and kicking at officers, causing an injury to Ptl. Lopez’ left hand.  At police headquarters, Brooks was processed and committed to the Union County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.  He was given a court date of June 22nd in Superior Court.  Brooks was also processed on an outstanding criminal warrant from Newark.  Ptl. Lopez was treated and released from Overlook Hospital. While in custody and before transport to Union County Jail, Brooks was additionally charged with Criminal Mischief when he urinated over his cell floor, walls and the cellblock hallway.

Sunday, June 19th

  • Patrick O'Dowd, 21, of Cranford, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. O'Dowd was stopped for erratic driving and crossing the center yellow line on Elizabeth Avenue near Wade Avenue. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Steven D’Ambola arrested O'Dowd for DWI. He was processed and released with a court date of June 22nd.  O'Dowd was also cited for Failure to Keep Right and Maintenance of Lamps.
  • Khalif Edwin, 18, of Paterson, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana (less than 50g) and Possession of Paraphernalia. Edwin was stopped on Raritan Road near Moen Avenue for using a handheld cell phone. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Spencer Durkin located two bags of marijuana on Edwin's person.  He was arrested, processed and released with a court date of June 22nd. Edwin was also cited for Cell Phone Use While Driving.
