Police Blotter: Cranford Resident Arrested For Alleged Marijuana Possession

This week's law enforcement reports from the Cranford Police Department.

Cranford Police arrested Erin Leonard, 21, for allegedly possessing less than 50 grams of marijuana on March 8 around 12:41 a.m., according to Det. Sgt. Gerard Quinn of the Cranford Police Department.

Ptl. Steven D'Ambola pulled over the Cranford resident, driving a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer, when a routine plate check revealed that the vehicle was unregistered. When investigating, D'Ambola located several packages of suspected marijuana in the center console.

Police apprehended Leonard on North Avenue by the Forest Avenue intersection. Leonard also received a summons for driving an uninsured vehicle.

Leonard is scheduled to appear in Cranford Municipal Court on March 9.

  • Cranford Police arrested Thomas Disporto, 19,  on March 3 around 10:59 p.m. for alleged possessing less than 50 grams of marijuana on South Avenue East by High Street.

Ptl. Nelson Hearns pulled over Disporto, driving a 1994 Honda Civic, originally because the Elizabeth resident reportedly did not have a seatbelt on. When confronting the driver, Hearns noticed a bag of suspected loose marijuana in the vehicle. He found another bag on Disporto's person. 

Disporto is scheduled to appear in Cranford Municipal Court on March 9.

  • Police apprehended Brian Herron, 29, for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol  March 6 around 1:34 a.m. on North Avenue by Springfield Avenue.

Ptl. Kelly Rieder pulled over the Cranford resident, driving a 2005 Honda Civic, after the suspect allegedly made an improper turn – switching from one lane to the other – onto Springfield Avenue. Rieder also charged Herron for refusing to submit breath samples to test for alcohol levels in his body. Herron is scheduled to appear in Cranford Municipal Court March 9.

  • Cranford Police arrested Mark Sawaryn, 24, for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol on March 6 around 11:12 p.m.

Ptl. Brian Lopez pulled over the Linden resident, driving a 2003 Honda Accord, on Raritan Road by Commerce Drive for making an improper left turn onto Centennial Avenue while exiting the Garden State Parkway. 

Sawaryn is scheduled to appear in Cranford Municipal Court March 9.
