Police Blotter: Motor Vehicle Stops Lead To Drug Arrests

The following information was obtained from the Cranford Police. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

June 6

  • arrested a Linden man on June 6 for alleged drug possession. At 2:25 p.m., Officer Spencer Durkin stopped a 2004 Kia for driving in a careless manner on Raritan Road near Coleman Avenue. After a brief on-scene investigation, Officer Durkin arrested and charged the driver, Michael G. Vida, 53, of Linden, for possession of prescription pills and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia. Vida was also issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and obstruction of view. Vida was released with Superior Court proceedings pending.

June 8

  • A Linden man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated on June 8. At 6:48 p.m., Officer Christopher Difabio stopped a 1997 Oldsmobile for driving erratically in the 500-block of Centennial Avenue. After a brief on-scene investigation, Officer DiFabio arrested and charged Brian M. Kosiba, 36, of Linden, with driving while intoxicated. Kosiba was also issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving and failure to have a valid drivers license in his possession. Kosiba was released with Municipal Court proceedings pending.

June 11

  • A Clifton woman was arrested on several drug-related charges on June 11, following a routine motor vehicle stop. Officer Spencer Durkin stopped a 2005 Acura TL at 12:04 p.m. in the area of Centennial Avenue and Cayuga Road for not having any visible license plates. While conducting an on scene investigation, Officer Durkin detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. After a brief investigation on scene, Officer Durkin arrested and charged the passenger, Alexis Rivera, 25, of Clifton, with possession of under 50g. of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of CDS paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle was issued a summons for unclear display of license plates. Rivera was processed and released pending Superior Court proceedings.
