Police Blotter: Suspect Arrested for Assaulting Police Officer, Drug Charges, DWI

The following information was obtained from the Cranford Police. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Aug. 4

  • At 8:08 p.m., police arrested Jeffrey Jordan, 25, of Brick for possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to reports, Patrolman Spencer Durkin stopped a 2005 Chevrolet for a cracked windshield on North Avenue East near the southbound ramp of the Garden State Parkway. After a brief investigation at the scene, the officer located a small amount of suspected cocaine in the vehicle, along with a pipe and other paraphernalia. The driver, Jordan, was arrested, processed and released with a Superior Court date.

  • At 9:59 p.m., Patrolman Brian Lopez arrested a suspect identified as Paul Rebelo, 29, of Cranford. According to police reports, Rebelo was stopped on Centennial Avenue for bicycle violations. Following an investigation at the scene, the officer located a bag of suspected marijuana in Rebelo's person. He was arrested for possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. He was also cited for "no lamp on a bicycle." He was processed and released with a court date.

Aug. 7

  • At 12:41 a.m., Patrolman Brian Lopez arrested a suspect identified as Marquis Brinson, 34, of Linden. According to reports, police stopped a 1995 Chevrolet in the area of Myrtle Street and Commerce Drive for an inspection violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Brinson was found to have an outstanding traffic warrant from Fanwood. During Brinson’s arrest, Ptl. Lopez located suspected marijuana on Brinson’s person. He was processed and released with a court date after posting $89 bail on the Fanwood warrant. Brinson was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and contempt of court. He was also cited for failure to make repairs and improper display of a license plate.
  • At 4:12 a.m., Patrolman Brian Lopez arrested a suspect identified as Ormealia Whitaker, 37, of Irvington. According to police reports, a 1996 Acura was stopped on Centennial Avenue near Raritan Road for seatbelt violations. Following an investigation at the scene, the patrolman located 38 foil packages of suspected cocaine on Whitaker’s person. During his arrest, Whitaker was allegedly able to violently attack Patrolman Lopez before fleeing on foot into Linden. As additional units arrived, Whitaker was located on Crescent Place in Linden. He was arrested, processed and transported to the Union County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. He was also cited for failure to wear a seatbelt and was given a Superior Court date. Whitaker was arrested on the following charges: possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, cocaine distribution in a school zone, possession of cocaine, possession of paraphernalia, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to breath test.

  • At 2:26 a.m., Patrolman Robert Jordan arrested Tyshon Allen, 20, of Westfield. According to reports, following a suspicious person investigation on the dead end of Hayes Street, Patrolman Jordan arrested Allen when he was found to have an outstanding traffic warrant from Fanwood. During the arrest, Allen was found to be in possession of a bag of suspected marijuana. He was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and contempt of court. He was processed and released with a court date.
