Police Blotter: Traffic Stops Lead To Arrests For DWI, Drugs

The following information was obtained from the Cranford Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 8

  • A Cranford man was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop. At 11:05 p.m., Cranford Police responded to a Pine Street address on the report of theft of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. Later that evening, the 1999 Mazda was observed by Patrolman Derek Farbanec exiting the Garden State Parkway Exit 136 Ramp.  Farbanec stopped the vehicle. Following an investigation, Robert Maurer Jr., 20, of Cranford, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. In addition, Maurer was charged with the Unlawful Taking of the Vehicle and Driving With a Suspended License for a Second DWI Conviction, both are fourth degree offenses. Maurer was released with a Union County Superior Court date.

Nov. 13

  • A Newark juvenile was arrested for drug possession following a motor vehicle stop. At 12:18 p.m., Patrolman Spencer Durkin stopped a 2008 Ford for a motor vehicle violation on Centennial Avenue at Cayuga Road. Subsequent to Durkin’s investigation, the passenger of the vehicle, a 17-year-old from Newark, was found to be in possession of 90 folds of heroin. The juvenile was taken into custody and charged with possession with the intent to distribute heroin, possession of heroin and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia. He was released to his mother and will have to appear in Superior Court at a date to be determined.

Nov. 15

  • Police arrested two individuals following a traffic stop on Raritan Road at Moen Avenue. At 2 a.m., Patrolman Robert Jordan stopped a 1992 Cadillac for a motor vehicle violation. Subsequent to Jordan’s investigation, the driver, Yuseef Morton, 22, of Roselle, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. The passenger, Nicole Fields, 26, of Linden, was arrested and charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Morton was also issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving and failure to produce a valid registration card. Both Morton and Fields were released with a Cranford Municipal Court date of Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
