Police Chase Suspect on Foot, Make Drug Arrests

Cranford police activity from October 29 to November 1.

Cranford police made four drug arrests, one alcohol arrest, and another alcohol arrest that involved a foot chase last week. Details

Thursday, October 29:
Officer Brian Lopez stopped a vehicle on Centennial Avenue at Raritan Road at 9:52 p.m. after spotting a passenger who was not wearing his seatbelt. Through further investigation both driver, an 18-year-old man from Linden, and passenger, a 20-year-old man also from Linden were arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia. The driver was also charged with CDS in a motor vehicle and the passenger was charged with not wearing a seatbelt.

Friday, October 30:
Officer John Rattigan stopped a vehicle on North Avenue at Garden State Parkway at 11:42 p.m. for an unlit brake light. Through further investigation the 26-year-old male driver from Plainfield was arrested for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, CDS in a motor vehicle and failure to maintain vehicle lights.

Saturday, October 31:
Officer Eugene Perrotta stopped a vehicle on South Avenue near Lincoln Avenue West at 1:53 a.m. for having no visible license plates. Through further investigation the 21-year-old male driver from Boonton was arrested for driving while intoxicated and for having an open container of alcohol, as well as for having no license plates and an unlit brake light.

Officers Sean Holcomb and Spencer Durkin responded to Fairfield Avenue at 8:21 a.m. on a report of occupants sleeping in a parked vehicle. Through further investigation a 19-year-old man from Edison was arrested on an active warrant out of Garwood, while an 18-year-old female from Westfield was arrested for possession of CDS under 50 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia. The male suspect was released on bail. 

Officer Spencer Durkin stopped a vehicle on Raritan Road and Centennial Avenue at 11:30 a.m. after spotting a passenger not wearing a seatbelt. Through further investigation, a 21-year-old male passenger from Jackson was arrested for possession of under 5o grams of marijuana, paraphernalia and for failing to wear his seatbelt.

Sunday, November 1:
Officer Brian Lopez stopped a vehicle on Raritan Road at 2:16 a.m. for an unlit brake light. Through further investigation the driver attempted to flee on foot. The 41-year-old driver from Winfield Park was caught by Lopez after a brief foot chase. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, careless driving and maintenance of vehicle lights.
