Police Confiscate Marijuana Near Hayes Street

Cranford police activity from May 19-25.

Cranford police confiscated at least three bags of marijuana during a car stop near the intersection of Centennial Avenue and Hayes Street last week. Here are the details:

Monday, May 24:
Officer Robert Jordan stopped a vehicle at Centennial Avenue and Hayes Street for inoperable brake light and missing inspection sticker at 1:27 a.m. Jordan detected an odor of burnt marijuana and located three bags of suspected marijuana on a 22-year-old man from Kearny. He was processed and released with a court date of June 2.

Officer Spencer Durkin observed a vehicle on Centennial Avenue near the Garden State Parkway with an inoperable headlight and fresh front end damage at 2:57 a.m. The vehicle also failed to maintain a lane while driving and was stopped as it entered the Garden State Parkway southbound. Investigation led to arrest of the 23-year-old male driver from Toms River for driving while intoxicated. He was also charged with maintenance of lamps, failure to maintain lane, failure to wear seatbelt, and careless driving. It appeared the vehicle had been involved in an accident, but checks with the State Police revealed no leaving-the-scene accidents in the area. Suspect was released and was to appear in court on May 24.
