Police Look For Motorcycle Thief

This week's police blotter also reports arrests for marijuana and heroin possession.

Cranford Police are investigating the theft of a motorcycle from a commerical parking lot at 20 Commerce Drive on April 30 around 2 p.m., according to Det. Sgt. Gerard Quinn. The motorcycle is a black 2009 Kawasaki ZX.

A 25-year-old Howell resident, the owner of the motorcycle, told investigators he witnessed the theft from the upper story of an apartment building. He described the perpetrators as two black males arriving in the lot riding double on another motorcycle.  One, wearing a black shirt, jeans, and a blue helmet, hopped off the motorcycle and onto his. Both then fled northbound on the Garden State Parkway.

  • Police arrested Cranford resident Matthew Howard, 26, for alleged heroin possession on May 2 around 1 a.m. at his residence on Ramapo Road. He was also allegedly found with a hypodermic syringe.

Ptl. Brian Lopez responded to Howard's residence when officers received a report that he overdosed. He was transported to Overlook Hospital in Summit. Officers found the numerous bags of suspected heroin, needle and related paraphanelia in his home. He is scheduled to appear in Superior Court today.

  • Cranford Police apprehended  Garwood resident Christian Torres, 35, for driving while under the influence of alcohol on April 29 around 2 a.m.

Ptl. Robert Jordan first pulled Torres over, driving a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse, on North Avenue West by Lincoln Avenue after noticing that he was driving erratically. In addition to the DWI, He was given a traffic citation for failure to keep right. He is scheduled to appear in Cranford Municipal Court today.

  • Around 10 p.m. Cranford Police apprehended two 31-year-olds on May 1 for alleged marijuana possession – Plainfield resident Tony Peele and Watchung resident Michael Shults. 

Ptl. Brian Lopez first pulled over the 1998 Dodge Durango driven by one of the suspects on Raritan Road by Centennial Avenue, as both occupants were not wearing a seatbelt. After further investigation of the vehicle, Lopez allegedy discovered a bag of less than 20 grams of suspected marijuana, a handrolled marijuana cigarette and rolling papers.

  • Cranford Police apprehended Metuchen resident Katelynne Meehan, 19, for alleged possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and related paraphernalia on May 2 around 11:17 p.m.

Ptl. Brian Lopez first pulled over Meehan, driving a 1991 Oldsmobile, on Centennial Avenue by Cayyuga Road due to a broken tail light. Lopez then found a handrolled suspected marijuana cigar on her person. 

 She was arrested, processed and released. She is scheduled for a first appearance today in Cranford Municipal Court. For the broken tail light, she was also cited for a maintenance of lamps charge.
