Police Make Drunken Driving, Drug Arrests Over the Holidays

Cranford police made drunken driving and marijuana arrests over the holiday week. Details:

Wednesday, December 23:
Officer Spencer Durkin stopped a vehicle at North Avenue East and Carpenter Place for tinted windows at 1:31 a.m. The officer detected an odor of burnt marijuana in the vehicle. He arrested an 18-year-old male from Roselle for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Thursday, December 24:

Officer Sean Holcomb arrested a 29-year-old male from Linden for driving while intoxicated and careless driving at 5:28 p.m. The driver was arrested after being allegedly involved in a two-vehicle crash at Centennial Avenue and the Garden State Parkway Exit 136 northbound ramp. There were no injuries.

Office Eugene Perrotta arrested a 52-year-old male from Cranford for driving while intoxicated, refusing to submit breath tests, careless driving, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash at 7:29 p.m. The arrest was made due to the driver's alleged involvement in a motor vehicle crash in which the driver allegedly struck a parked vehicle at Burnside Avenue near Williams Street and attempted to flee the scene. Witnesses contacted police.

Sunday, December 27:
Officer Durkin stopped a vehicle at Raritan Road and Commerce Drive at 8 a.m. for a seatbelt violation. During the stop he observed suspected marijuana in plain view within the vehicle. He arrested a 29-year-old male from Newark for possession of under 50 grams or marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Tuesday, December 29:
Officer Robert Jordan stopped a vehicle at North Avenue East and Carpenter Place for an inoperable brake light at 12:47 a.m. After further investigation, he arrested a 25-year-old male from Linden for driving while intoxicated and maintenance of brake lights.
