Slain Cranford Mother's Body Still Not Found

Accused killer's mom, facing a hindering apprehension charge, was released Friday on $1,500 bail.

As the search continues for the body of a Cranford mother of two who is believed to have been killed in a Union Township home last week, the mother of the alleged killer was released on bail late Friday afternoon.

Eleanor Schofield, 70, of Mountainside, was released from Union County Jail on $1,500 bail at about 5 p.m. Friday, according to NJ.com. Schofield has been charged with hindering apprehension for allegedly helping her son conceal evidence following the killing, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said.

Schofield's son, Matthew Ballister, 43, has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing April Wyckoff, 43, in his Union Township home likely sometime Tuesday night, the prosecutor's office said.

However, after days of searching, authorities still had not found Wyckoff's body as of Saturday. Multiple agencies focused their search on Liberty State Park on Friday.

Wyckoff, a Cranford High School grad, lived in Cranford with her two children, a 23-year-old son and a 16-year-old daughter, NJ.com reported.
