Man Charged With Intent to Distribute Prescription Drug

Cranford Police break up alleged drug transaction at 500 North Avenue East.

Cranford Police arrested Robert Holmes on Feb. 2 for allegedly possessing and intending to distribute the prescription drug suboxone, according to Lt. James Wozniak of the Cranford Police Department.

While performing a security check  at 500 East North Avenue close to the Sun Tavern, Ptl. Spencer Durkin noticed the three men standing by a parked car. As he approached the group, they dispersed in different directions.

Suspicious, Durkin gathered the men together to investigate, determining that Newark resident Robert Holmes was selling the suboxone to Patrick Blewitt, a South Orange resident.

Police also determined that Blewitt works at a neighboring business and moved to 500 North Avenue East on break to make the purchase. Abdullah Khaliq drove the vehicle.

Durkin made the arrest around 9:18 p.m. In addition to charging Holmes, police charged Blewitt with loitering in order to acquire the drug. Khaliq was charged with possessing the drug and related paraphernalia.

Here are the rest of this week's Cranford Police reports:

  • Cranford Police arrested Michael J. Guarraci, Jr. on Feb. 4 for allegedly intending to distribute 19 ecstasy pills. 

Around 11:23 p.m. Officer Spencer Durkin pulled over Guarraci in a 1997 Honda Accord on Centennial Avenue by Raritan Road after noticing one of the passengers not wearing a seatbelt.

After smelling the odor of burning marijuana, Durkin found the 17-year-old front seat passenger allegedly in possession of less than 50 grams of the drug. Further investigation yielded ecstasy charges for Guarraci. 

Guarraci is scheduled for a Union County Superior court session today. The 17-year-old juvenile was released to a guardian and awaits law enforcement follow-up. 

  • Cranford Police arrested Stanley Paul for allegedly possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Feb. 4. 

Noticing that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, officer Brian Lopez pulled over a  red four-door Ford in traffic around 11:23 p.m. on Commerce Drive by Raritan Road. While conducting a roadside interview, he noticed the smell of marijuana and found what he suspects to be the drug on Stanley Paul, the front-seat passenger.

  • Cranford Police arrested Donald Mulligan on Feb. 5 for allegedly possessing less than 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. 

Around 12:19 a.m. Officer Daniel Norton pulled over a gray Honda Civic on South Avenue by Washington Place after noticing that one front headlight was out on the vehicle. Norton noticed a strong burnt marijuana smell coming from inside the vehicle and arrested Mulligan.

  • Cranford Police arrested Daniel Sullivan on Feb. 5 for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol on Fe.b 5 at the corner of Eastman and Holly Streets.

After responding to a call around 8:07 p.m., officer Nadia Jones observed a silver, four-door Mercury in the middle of the road near parked vehicles with visible damage. Following a roadside investigation, Sullivan was arrested, charged with Driving While Intoxicated, carless driving and failure to keep right. 

  • Cranford Police arrested Younes Alaoui-Sossi on Feb. 5 around 8:16 p.m. for allegedly possessing less than 50 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Officer John Rattigan found Alaoui-Sossi's vehicle stuck on top of a snow bank in front of 433 Manor Avenue and apprehended the driver.

  • On Feb. 6 Cranford Police arrested Bernard Cole on Centennial Avenue by Raritan Road for allegedly driving while intoxicated with alcohol. 

After noticing a vehicle drift over the double yellow line, Officer Robert Jordan pulled it over and apprehended  Cole, the driver at 3:18 p.m. 

  • Cranford Police arrested Daniel Tolentino Feb. 7 at the intersection of North Avenue East and Forest Avenue, charged with possessing less than 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. 

Around 1:46 p.m. Officer William Pietrucha pulled over Tolentino, driving a green four-door Ford, after he noticed a malfunctioning tail light on the vehicle. While approaching the vehicle, he smelled marijuana. After investigating, Pietrucha arrested the driver and also issued him a summons for careless driving.
