The Week Ahead: A Birchwood Update; Students will Take The 'Plunge,' Brookstriders Prepare For Annual Race

  • Members of the Cranford Fire Department will heat things up Monday night from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Pines Manor in Edison during the Ultimate Fire Department Cook-off. The second annual event will take place during the Cooked and Uncorked Food and Wine Festival benefiting New Jersey State Firefighter’s Mutual Benevolent Association and Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation.
  • Superior Court Judge Lisa Chrystal has denied the township's motion for reconsideration in the case. Despite the evidence provided by the township regarding concerns with flodding on the property, the judge did not reverse her previous decision allowing 360 residential units to be built on the flood-proned land.
  • The - a group of parents and students from Brookside Place School - are planning for their second annual 5K race in April. the group has numerous fundraisers planned, all of which are geared toward keeping kids healthy and active.
  • Members of the will participate in the annual Polar Bear Plunge. The group is trying to get as many Cranford residents and friends of Cranford to participate in this year’s event. This event raises funds for Special Olympics New Jersey.  Special Olympics New Jersey provides free year-round sports training and Olympic-type competition in 24 sports for more than 21,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • The has passed a resolution that will move the annual school board election to November, in conjunction with the General Election. Board members say the move will have pros and cons, especially when it comes to the school district budget.
  • ? Several residents responded when we posted a picture of a vacant storefront and asked what readers would like to see in that space. in the coming week, we will ask your opinions on another location. Cranford currently has one of the lowest vacancy rates in the state in its downtown business district, according to Director Kathleen Miller Prunty.
