The Week Ahead: An Update on Birchwood

Here's a look at some of the stories Patch is working on for the coming week, as well as local events you should know about.

 

  • The township's ongoing fight to prevent a developer from constructing 360 housing units in a flood zone on continues. The S. Hekemian Group, which owns the property at 215 and 235 Birchwood Avenue is filing a permit application with the NJDEP to build 360 apartments and a parking garage on the property. The construction project was already as part of a builder's remedy lawsuit. Residents only have until the end of this year to contact the NJDEP with comments and .
  • , which celebrated its 100th birthday last year as part of the Cranford community, suffered severe damages due Hurricane Irene. The church's fellowship hall was flooded by nearly four feet of water and has been unusable since late summer. This past Sunday, the church reopened and dedicated its newly refurbished fellowship hall in honor of one of its oldest member couples, Leon and Clarence-Bernice Brown.
  • We will have a restaurant review of Beer bar and Grill, which recently updated its menu and renovated the inside of the restaurant.
