VIDEO: Evacuees Weather The Storm At Community Center

A small handful of residents from Cranford's flood zone prepared to spend the night at the temporary shelter.

Rain began to fall steadily Saturday night as Hurricane Irene approached the Garden State. In advance of the storm, residents who live in Cranford's flood zone were ordered to evacuate their homes. A temporary shelter was set up at the Cranford Community Center, and as Irene moved closer to Cranford, a small number of residents began to make their way to the Walnut Avenue facility.

Some had been through previous storms that left parts of the town underwater. Some felt the hype around Irene would end up being unfounded but a few felt that this storm might just be the real deal.
