Concert Season Begins with CHS Spring Choral Performance

Singing groups from Cranford High School will perform in the first concert on the spring season on April 25.

The Cranford High School Performing Arts Department begins its Spring Concert Season with the Spring Choral Concert on April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium.

Enjoy selections from the Women’s and Men’s Choruses, the Noteworthy Gentlemen, the Women’s Ensemble, the Madrigal Choir, and the Concert Choir. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Concert Choir and Madrigal Choir recently returned from a tour of Southern California where the student performed onboard the USS Midway aircraft carrier in San Diego, and took part in vocal workshops at Disneyland and with professors from San Diego State University and Pepperdine University. Five students from the CHS choral program also recently participated in the American Choral Directors Association’s National Honor Choirs in Dallas.

At this year’s spring concert, the James Lenney Choral Excellence Scholarship will be awarded for the first time to a graduating senior in the choir. The scholarship was established earlier this year in honor of former Director of Choral Activities and Supervisor of Music, James Lenney, who is celebrating 60 years of musical service to the Cranford community. Mr. Lenney began teaching in Cranford Public School during the 1952-1953 school year. He retired in 1988, but continues to serve as Choirmaster and Organist at Trinity Episcopal Church, Cranford.

Donations to the scholarship fund are being accepted. A scholarship donation form is available at www.cranfordmusic.org. For more information, contact Anthony Rafaniello, Director of Choral Activities at Cranford High School at 709-6312.
