DECA Club Takes Top Scores at Competition

More students than ever have advanced to the finals in the New Jersey DECA Leadership Conference.

Fifty-five DECA students at scored in the top of their business events, making them not only eligible to compete in the New Jersey DECA Leadership Conference in Cherry Hill on Feb. 26-28 but also the most to ever advance in the history of Cranford High School.

The DECA Program is aimed at helping students prepare for business careers. The program, which boasts 118 members, builds self-esteem, helps with leadership skills, and practices community service.

First place winners are: Jacqueline Chiari for Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Rachel White for Principles of Business Marketing and Gabrielle DaSilva for Automotive Service Marketing.

Among the second-place winners are: Joseph Bringuier for Personal Finance, Elizabeth Truffa for Principles of Business Management, Michael Wolansky for Accounting, Lauren Iauruzio for Automotive Service Marketing, Ben Ilaria and Brian O`Dowd  for Business Law and Ethics, and William Daly for Food Service Marketing.                     

Third-place winners are William Allen, and Andrew Miller for Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Allison Verilli for Principle of Business Marketing, Nicole Salindardo for Principles of Hospitality, Marianna Franzetti for Principles of Business Management.                                                                  

In addition, students placing in the top 10 of their business specialties are listed below. During the competition, each student completed a one-hour written test focused on their area of interest, then read, prepared for and executed two role-play scenarios. Business, marketing, and accounting professionals served as judges for more than 1,500 students attending the regional competition from across central New Jersey. The DECA club is advised by Business Education teachers at Cranford High School, Richard Goldstein and Donna Cathcart.
