ESL Classess Offered at UCC

For those who are interested in learning English, Union County College will begin holding its interview and test dates to take courses in the College’s Institute for Intensive English in the English as a Second Language program.  The Institute is located in the Lessner Building at the College’s Elizabeth campus.

The Institute for Intensive English is a full-time program of concentrated instruction in English for persons whose native language is not English.  As a result of studying in the program, students enhance their English language abilities in order to further their academic, career, and/or personal goals in the United States.  After placement testing, students enter one of six levels of instruction commensurate with their abilities.  The curriculum covers structure, listening, conversation, and study skills, as well as reading and academic writing.

Each interview date is followed by a test date and students can register two weeks later for courses.  The first interview date is April 13 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., followed by the test date on April 14 at 9:30 a.m., and registration from this series is on April 26. The next interview date is April 27 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., followed by the test date on April 28 at 9:30 a.m., and registration is on May 3. The third date is May 8 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., followed by the test date on May 11 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and registration is on May 16.  Also on May 16, potential students can come to the campus and interview and test at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and can register on May 21.
