 Dear Cranford Resident:

The Cranford Public School District offers a specialized preschool program called The Regular Education And Delayed Youngsters Program (READY). This program is the inclusive component of the district’s preschool disabled program.

Structured along the same lines as the Special Needs Assessment Program for Preschool Youngsters (SNAPPY), the program seeks to bring together typical and special needs children (ages 3 – 5) in order to foster a natural, enriched preschool environment.  The philosophy is based on the rationale that children learn through modeling and imitation and are motivated by other children.  By integrating students with disabilities into typical preschool classes, maximum growth and development is achieved for all children.

Next year we will continue our program which includes preschool age children with and without disabilities together in an inclusive environment. The program will consist of several classes for children ages 3-5.  The READY program will be housed at Walnut Avenue School. Non-disabled three and four year old children will be selected by a lottery system. There will be a tuition charge of $300.00 per month.  Given the success and popularity of our program, we are unable to continue the practice of admitting both twins if only one is selected.

If you are interested in an application for the READY program, you may obtain one in the office at any of the district’s elementary schools or on the district’s website at www.cranfordschools.org. Please complete the application and check the box that represents your child’s age on October 1, 2013.  Return the application to the Office of Special Services, 132 Thomas Street by Monday, January 21, 2013.

Since available slots for the READY program are limited, no applications will be accepted after that date. The lottery drawing will be held on January 28, 2013. If your child’s application is selected, you will be notified by phone shortly thereafter.

If you have questions regarding the READY Program, you may contact the Department of Special Services at 908 709-6217.

Sincerely,

Ms. Barbara DeLoretto

Supervisor of Special Education
