Teens Raise Thousands For Special Olympics

The Cranford Teen Advisory Board took a chilly dip in the Atlantic Ocean during the annual Polar Bear Plunge.

On Feb. 25 the Cranford Plungers participated in the Special Olympics New Jersey Polar Bear Plunge in Seaside Heights.

The temperature was in the 30-degree range, the wind was relentless and it snowed but the Cranford Plungers jumped into the Atlantic Ocean along with 6,000 other plungers. The team was organized by the Cranford Teen Advisory Board. This was the second year that the TAB organized a team for this event.   

370 teams participated in the Polar Bear Plunge raising $1.4 million. The Cranford Plungers ranked tenth in funds raised with a total of $10,242 donated towards Special Olympics New Jersey. The Cranford Plungers were also one of the largest teams to participate in the plunge with 42 members strong. The majority of the members were Cranford teenagers. This was a family-friendly event with the youngest Cranford Plunger being 7-years-old and a few Dad’s taking the plunge to support the cause.

Next year’s goal for the Teen Advisory Board is to recruit more residents to join the Cranford Plungers and increase funds raised for Special Olympics. The Plungers thanked all of the businesses and organizations that supported them this year, especially thank Cranford Knights of Columbus, Cranford Jaycees, , Roxxi Hair Salon and .
