Power Restored After Nearly 2,400 Outages Sunday Night

The outages were likely due to hot weather, PSE&G says.

On Sunday evening, about 2,400 Cranford residents experienced outages due to an underground cable failure, PSE&G said.

The outages initially occurred around 7:22 p.m. and PSE&G began restoration right away, with all customers restored by 10:30 p.m.

"The cause was likely due to the hot weather," PSE&G's Director of Communications Karen Johnson said.

Monday morning, PSE&G sent out a release stating that the company is monitoring the extreme heat conditions this week.

"PSE&G expects today’s (Monday's) electric demand to reach 9,833 megawatts." the release stated. "The all-time peak demand of 11,108 megawatts was set on August 2, 2006."

PSE&G is prepared for the increasing demand for electricity during the hot, humid weather, the company stated.

To report an outage, call customer service at 1-800-436-PSEG or visit "My Account" online. Also, during the extreme heat this week follow "PSEG Delivers" on Twitter.
