School Enrollment and Statistics

Enrollment

Who to Call: For more information on enrolling your child, call Cranford Public Schools at 908-272-9100.

A family must reside in Cranford to be eligible to attend Cranford Township public schools.
At the time of registration, a birth certificate, a mortgage, lease or rental agreement with a Cranford address and two or more of the following with a Cranford address will be required:
- Utility bill (phone bills are not acceptable)
- Credit card bill
- Voter Registration Card
- Driver's License
- Vehicle Registration
- Bank Account
- Federal or State Income Tax Returns indicating domicile in Cranford
- Child Custody Order placing the child with a Cranford resident

Statistics

Cranford High School has an enrollment of approximately 1,100 students in grades nine through 12.
Orange Avenue and Hillside Avenue schools have an enrollment of approximately 950 students in grades five through eight.
Bloomingdale Avenue, Brookside Place, Livingston Avenue and Walnut Avenue schools have an enrollment of 1,100 students in pre-K through grade 5.

Police

Eric G. Mason is the chief of Cranford Police Department (CPD).
The department has 52 officers and 10 civilian officers.
CPD is also one of the first New Jersey police departments to have all its patrol officers trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
The Police Department is located at 8 Springfield Ave.

Fire

Who to Call: In emergency, call 911. For all other times, call 908-276-0146.

The chief of Cranford Fire Department (CFD) is Leonard Dolan.
The headquarters of the department is at 7 Springfield Ave.
The department has three engines, one tower ladder, a heavy rescue and three personal vehicles at its disposal.
CFD has four crews and 18 certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
The department also runs programs where the inspectors visit schools to teach children about fire safety.

Ambulances

Who to Call: In emergency, call 911. For other times, call Cranford Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Supervisor Mike Diaz at 908-709-3998 or Cranford First Aid Squad (FAS) at 908-272-7717.

While EMS is run by Cranford Police Department, FAS is a volunteer organization.

Sanitation and Recycling

Who to Call: For sanitation and recycling issues, and more information, contact the health department at 908-709-7299.

Cranford’s Conservation/Recycling Center is located off of Orange Avenue on Birchwood Avenue.
Proof of residency is required for drop off.
No permits required for disposal of motor oil and motor oil filters, household batteries, glass bottles and jars, aluminum cans, steel/tin cans, newspapers and magazines, junk mail, books and corrugated cardboard.
Permit is required for the disposal of grass, brush and yard waste.
Residents are required to sign up and pay for their home trash removal services. The following is a list of solid waste removal services in Cranford:

Potholes and Road Repair

The public works department maintains 70 miles of township roads. If you see a road in need of repair, contact the town clerk at 908-709-7210.

Some Cranford roads are maintained by the county or state. Springfield Avenue and Walnut Avenue, for example, are county highways, while the Garden State Parkway and Route 23 are state roads. If you see a county- or state- maintained road that needs repair, you can still call the town clerk and the complaint will be forwarded along to the proper office.

Complaints regarding clogged sewers and street flooding should also be called in to the town clerk.

Martha Garcia, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner of Public Works

Martha Garcia serves as Cranford's deputy mayor and commisioner of public works and engineering. She is a Republican. In 2009 Garcia served as commissioner of public safety.

Garcia has been a Cranford resident for 14 years and has also served in the United States Army.
She also serves as director of Special Events at Seton Hall University.
Garcia earned her M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
She also happens to be the seventh woman to serve as a commissioner in Cranford.

Mark Dugan, Commissioner of Finance

Mark Dugan serves as commissioner of finance. He is a Republican.

Dugan has been a Cranford resident since 1985.
He has been practicing commercial litigation as an attorney since 1984.
Dugan studied law from Cardozo School of Law and also holds a B.S. degree in business and economics from Lehigh University.

U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance

Republican - 7^th District New Jersey

In 2008, this Clinton Township resident defeated Democrat Linda Stender to represent New Jersey’s 7^th District.
Lance has served as a member of the New Jersey Senate representing the 23^rd Legislative District in the past.
From 2004-2008, Lance was the Minority Leader of the New Jersey Senate
When Lance served in the New Jersey General Assembly between 1991 and 2002, he was the third generation of his family to serve in the state legislature. Great-uncle H. Kiefer Lance and father, Wesley Lance, have also served in the legislature.
Born in 1952, Lance is married to Heidi Rohrbach. Their son, Peter Frank, attends the University of Wisconsin.
Lance attended North Hunterdon Regional High School and went on to study for his bachelor’s degree at Lehigh University. He has a law degree from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree from Princeton.

Daniel Aschenbach, Commissioner of Public Affairs

Daniel Aschenbach serves as commissioner of public affairs. He is a Democrat.

Aschenbach has been mayor of Cranford in 1993, 2003 and 2006 and a member of the Township Committee for 15 years.
He works as a senior vice president at a company specializing in evaluating the creditworthiness of electric utilities.
He earned his B.A. from Boston University, his M.P.A. from Rutgers and was awarded a post-graduate degree from New York University and Harvard's JFK School of Government.
