Cranford Girls Defeat Gov. Livingston, 35-33

The close basketball matchup was led by Senior Mallory George with 16 points.

The Lady Cougars were neck-in-neck for much of the game against Gov. Livingston on Thursday. Here's information about the game provided by Michael McCoy, father to player Jess McCoy, via Twitter: Jess McCoy 15 pts, 9 rbs, 6 stls and 5 blocks to lead Cranford past GL. Sr. Fwd Kaitlin McGovern hit for 11pts in the win. @gregglerner Sr. Mallory George led all scorers with a 16 points for GL. Game was never more than a four point margin and mostly within @gregglerner The Cranford girls basketball team's next game is at Summit on Saturday at 5p.m.

St. Anthony's, St. Patrick's among high-profile hoops squads battling in a weekend tournament to help Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children.

Garden State basketball junkies will get the chance to watch some of the top talent from all over New Jersey and rub elbows with coaches from storied college programs — all while supporting a good cause. Kean University's Harwood Arena will once again host the 2012 Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children Invitational, the ninth annual showcase tournament for the state's parochial high school basketball programs. But this weekend, don't expect the spirit of philanthropy to trickle on the court as rivalries get renewed and the intense competition for regional hoops supremacy continues in a tournament that continues to draw the best teams and players in the state.
