Bloomingdale Ave. Kids Honor MLK Day With Donation

Second and third graders make scarves for Elizabeth church.

The students of Bloomingdale Avenue School in Cranford honored Martin Luther King Jr by completing a service learning project.   The first and second graders made fleece scarves while the Kindergarten classes made tags to attach to the scarves.  The scarves will be donated to St. Joseph's in Elizabeth. --Diane Cruz Second Grade Teacher

Cranford Students Spread the Love - And the Peanut Butter

Children from Bloomingdale Avenue School hosted the school's 14th annual Sandwich Night.

Students and families from Bloomingdale Avenue School in Cranford joined together on Feb. 2, to make more than 1,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless as part of the school's 14th Annual Sandwich Night. Supplies were provided by BAS families, Perrotti's Meats, ShopRite, Trader Joe's and Target.

Oh Deer! Four-legged Friends Are Not As Shy As They Used To Be

Cranford residents express concerns about the large number of deer showing up in their neighborhoods.

About a week after concerned residents began to guard their small pets after learning that local police were forced to kill a coyote on Mitchell Place, residents are starting to realize another problem that is occurring. Though less menacing than coyotes, deer are starting to become an issue in some neighborhoods "We eventually fenced in our vegetables," said Linda Abella of Garden Street. Parts of her sizable garden were being eaten on a regular basis, becoming a regular salad bar for the deer. She eventually realized she had to take action. But that still doesn't mean that her other plants are safe. She has about 90 feet of hosta plants that also have fallen prey to the herbivores. Well I have to tell you that I would prefer seeing a big deer in my backyard, harmlessly eating birdseed, than a man with a mask and a gun. I doubt that the deer intended to maim or kill you. You can sleep well.   more ›
