Cranford Scouts Group Offers Christmas Tree Removal

Cranford's Venture Crew 80 will pickup and deliver Christmas trees for drop-off at the Conservation Center this weekend and next.

A Cranford scouting group this month will help residents say goodbye to their main holiday ornament: the Christmas tree. The recently formed Venture Crew has announced that their Christmas tree recycling fundraiser kicks off this weekend. The township doesn't pick up your Christmas trees curbside. Residents have to arrange a pickup, or haul their trees to the Conservation Center (see schedule here). "Our Venture crew will be picking up trees and transporting them to the Conservation Center this weekend (January 5 & 6) and next weekend (January 12 & 13)," Kathleen Murray Venture Crew 80 adviser told Patch. The group is asking for a suggested donation of $10 for the task, and residents can email to arrange a pickup at venturecrew80nj@gmail.…

Boy Scouts Seek Nominations for Scholarships

Boy Scouts of America requesting nominations for Scout Scholar Athletes.

Patriots’ Path Council of the Boy Scouts of America is looking for Scouts who work to achieve academic success while practicing healthy living through the athletics program. These scouts may be eligible for the Scout Scholar Athlete Award. Scouts can be nominated by teachers, coaches, scoutmasters, or fellow scouts. Interested scouts must be in 9-12 grade or a college freshmen and have an average GPA of 3.0 throughout their high school career. Applications are due by October 1, 2012. Scouts that receive the award will be recognized at the 2nd Annual Scout Scholar Athlete Award Brunch on November 18, 2012 at the Bernards Inn in Bernardsville, New Jersey.
