Coaches Corner: Richard Goldstein

Girl's varsity tennis coach leads the team to an 11-4 season and an appearance in the state tournament.

When he's not teaching students about the finer points of business at Cranford High School teacher Richard Goldstein is coaching the Lady Cougars on how to get busy on the tennis courts.  And Goldstein, in his sixth year coaching, seems to be doing a good job. This year's varisty squad finished with an 11-4 record, and placed in the top five of the Star-Ledger girl's tennis standings. Other honors include:  Patch talked to Goldstein about his coaching career and the highs and lows of this year's tennis season. Why do you coach? Coaches Corner: Dennis McCaffery

Cranford's baseball coach is inspired by athletes who 'work to their limit.'

The warmer temperatures mean more than just the beginning of spring - they also mean that it's officially baseball season, and so far, the Cranford Cougars baseball team is off to a great start with help of Coach Dennis McCaffery. The principal of Lincoln School, McCaffery started coaching in Cranford 1994. He led both football and baseball teams in town. A graduate of Villanova University, Mccaffery is also a graduate of nearby Roselle Park High School. Coaches Corner: Michele Hulse

She coached her record-setting team to a 10-0 season.

Cranford High School Gymnastics Coach Michele Hulse has had one heck of a season. Her team finished with a 10-0 record, but there's more. "We set, broke, and reset the school record of 109.05," Hulse said. "We were consistently ranked in the top 10 in the state. The girls truly did a wonderful job. We won the Cougar Invitational and placed second at the Union County Tournament and the North 2 State Sectional meet. We also had outstanding individual performances from Mary Kate Walch and Alexandra Puryear." Walch won both the county and sectional meets and advanced to states where she placed 11th in the all around and seventh on beam.Puryear won the Cougar Invitational meet and placed fifth at sectionals.
