Board of Education President Mary Venditti says she is focused on new administrator hires and ensuring the teacher evaluation pilot is successful.
Patch asked Board of Education President Mary Venditti what some of her goals were for 2013, and this is what she said: This year, as Board President, I want to continue working as a team with my fellow board members to further enhance the education of the children of Cranford. In these very trying economic times, I will work with the Finance Committee to ensure that our budget stays well under the 2% cap, while still providing a quality education to our students. I will also be working with the Superintendent, administrators and board to hire the best candidates for Asst. The Cranford Board of Education held its reorganization meeting last night. Four returning board members took their oaths. Among them were Jill Brown, Camille Widdows and returning board President Mary Venditti and Vice president Catherine Morgese. Brown, who has served six years on the board returned to fill the unexpired-term seat left by the resignation of Jerry Baranoff. This is Venditti's thirteenth year searving as board president and Morgese's second as vice president. Morgese has been a board member for six years. The board received a lengthy briefing on ethics and Sunshine Laws from board attorney Anthony P. Sciarrillo. Much of the conversation dealt with the ethical use of email between board members. A swearing-in of elected board members will take place at the Jan. 3 meeting.
Tomorrow, Jan. 3, the Cranford Board of Education will hold its first meeting of 2013. At the reorganization meeting, there will be a swearing-in of board members elected in November. Newly elected members include Mary Venditti, Camille Widdows, Catherine Morgese, and Jill Brown. Following various planned reports and public comments at the workshop meeting, the board will go into executive session to discuss personnel, litigation, contract negotiations, matters of attorney, client privilege, and student matters. The BOE workshop meeting takes place in the board room of Lincoln School at 7p.m. The board's regular meeting will take place Jan. 28 at 7p.m.
