Cranford Teens Convinced They 'Can' Break Guinness World Record

More than 20,000 cans of vegetables donated by ShopRite were delivered to the Community Center Thursday.

With the help of ShopRite, members of the Cranford Teen Advisory Board moved closer to their goal of breaking a world record for building the largest canned food pyramid. Dozens of local students gathered at the Cranford Community Center Thursday afternoon to help unload a tractor-trailer carrying 20,000 cans of vegetables that were donated by ShopRite to help the Teen Advisory Board achieve it's goal of breaking a Guinness World Record. The students worked together to unload pallets of cans from a truck into a room at the community center, where they will be stored until early next month. On May 4, beginning at 9 a.m., the group will gather at the community center to begin constructing the can pyramid using 25,000 cans of vegetables. The …

Cranford Teens Set Out To Break Guinness World Record

The Teen Advisory Board will attempt to break a Guinness World Record while helping victims of Superstorm Sandy.

On Thursday, approximately 20,000 cans of vegetables will be dropped off at the Cranford Community Center, where local teens will begin the process of preparing to break a Guinness World Record, while helping victims of Superstorm Sandy. The Cranford Teen Advisory Board has set out to collect 25 thousand cans of food for those effected by Superstorm Sandy and donate them to NJ Food Bank, Cranford Family Care and the Salvation Army Plainfield Corps. Prior to their donation, however, the teens plan to break a Guinness World record by building the world's largest canned food pyramid, according to a press release from the Teen Advisory Board. Environmental Commission Meets Tonight: Jan. 7

Meeting starts at 7:30p.m. in room 204 of the Cranford Community Center at 220 Walnut Ave.

The Cranford Environmental Commission will hold it first meeting of 2013 in the Cranford Community Center at 7:30p.m.  Among the items on the agenda are discussion of goals for 2013 and a meeting with Cranford's mayor. At the meeting, the status in the case involved the Birchwood Avenue project, also will be discussed, as well as the annual report for 2012. Also planned for discussion are goals for an energy efficient township vehicle fleet, raising awareness of the Sustainable Jersey Grant for Backyard Composting Program, and the groups petition for a Complete Streets policy. The Complete Streets petition is an initiative to increase walk and bike friendly areas with the use of Sustainable Jersey grant funds.   ---- The following is an …

Update: Voter Turnout In Cranford Is Low, But 'Steady'

Voters continued to stream into polling places throughout town early Tuesday afternoon.

A steady stream of voters trickled into polling places throughout Cranford Tuesday to cast their votes in the Nov. 8 general elction. Charles Giordano, a poll worker at the Cranford Municipal Building, said there was been a "fair turnout" as of about 2 p.m. A veteran of the Korean War who served in the Navy, Giordano said the first wave of voters arrived at town hall when the polls opened at 6 a.m. Inside town hall, residents were directed by signs to room 108, where two tables manned by poll workers were set up to accomodate registered voters who arrived to cast their ballots for local, county and state elections.
