The Cougars defeated Westfield 8-0 on Sunday, making them the county champs for the eighth year in a row.
On Sunday afternoon the No. 2 seeded Cranford Boys Varsity Baseball team defeated Westfield 8-0 in the Union County Tournament. Cranford has won each of their Union County Tournament match ups since 1999. Of the 60 years the tournament has existed, this is the eighth title for Cranford who is tied with Union for the second most wins behind Westfield who holds 13, according to NJ.com. Cranford who is 17-0 for the season scored the first run in the fourth inning of the game, followed by another four runs. The Cranford Boys Lacrosse Team lost to Summit 14-2 on Thursday losing them a spot in the UC Tournament Finals.
The top-seeded Summit varsity lacrosse team took down Cranford (9-7) in the semi-final round of the Union County Lacrosse Tournament on Thursday. According to NJ.com, Summit's Matt Maier and Liam Menning each scored four goals and had four assists, while Chris Zanelli managed to score two goals during the home game. Cranford defeated Arthur L. Johnson in the quarter-final round (9-6) bringing them to their match against Summit, but now Summit will play Westfield in the County Finals on Saturday.

Multi-sport Cranford High School junior Johnny Oblachinski, who excels at more than one CHS sport, is primed for the upcoming baseball and football seasons.
In an era of increasing sport specialization, Cranford High School junior Johnny Oblachinski is truly a man for all seasons, the latest in a select group of Cougar athletes who have starred in football, basketball and baseball and a testament to the school’s embracing the multi-sport athlete. Only three days after leading the basketball team in scoring in its final game of the season on Feb. 26, Oblachinski exchanged the orange basketball for the smaller white ball and instead of shooting, passing and rebounding he will be fielding the hot corner for the second consecutive spring as a member of the defending Group III championship baseball team. A Youtube video shows Cranford taking on what would become the 1977 State Champion Westfield High School, featuring future Giant Harold "Butch" Woolfolk.
There's no proof just yet whether a grainy online video is actually from 1977. What's clear is that it is showing a football game, a packed field and two teams going at it. The video titled "Cranford NJ vs Westfield NJ Football 1977," was uploaded to Youtube 10 months ago, garnering a few hundred views. The video resides under a Youtube account called Hoppieshome. Attempts to reach out to the owner were unsuccessful. The DECA Marketing club of Cranford High School is collecting school supplies to donate to the Middletown and Port Monmouth School District which like many towns took a direct hit from Hurricane Sandy. There will be a donation box located in the rotunda, which will remain there through Nov. 16. If you or someone you know can donate some school supplies it would be greatly appreciated. The Cranford High School “Cougar” Marching Band had a strong opening to their competition season this weekend while competing in the United States Scholastic Band Association Gold Show at North Brunswick High School. The band took second place in division 3A (up to 75 members). The band also took first place in the Music Ensemble and Music Individual categories. The Cranford Band is performing “Motion,” a show combining pieces from “Minimally Speaking” and “Journey of Man” by Richard Saucedo, and including original guard and drill work. The band staff includes director Daniel Chernosky, co-director Richard Donovan, assistants Karen Machoviak, Danny Donovan, and Color Guard director Sue Ulaky. In a Sunday morning Cougar face-off, the fifth grade Cranford Cougars football team took on the Chatham Cougars and dominated their opponents, 21-0.
The Cranford High School football team defeated Watching Hills Regional High School 17-14 during their first home game on Sept. 7 at Memorial Field.
