Cranford Climate Change Expert Set for Talk Today at Community Center

Mary Reilly will be present "Irene, Sandy, and Global Climate Change" at the Community Center at 7:30.

"Living sustainably would enhance community lives," said Mary Reilly who will be presenting a talk on global climate change tonight at the Community Center. "Like someone who looses weight, stops smoking, and gets in shape.  It would be hard at first, but after not too long, they'd wonder, 'Why didn't I start this sooner.' Reilly, a Cranford resident and captain of the Environmental Commission's Green Team will host and interactive session that involves games and prizes. "The workshop will bring the information on the myths and realities of global climate change to life in an upbeat, interactive way," she said. Environmental Group Discusses Use of 'Global Warming'

Commission plans to meet with Mayor Hannen this week to review list of 2013 environmental goals.

On Monday night, the Cranford Environmental Commission met for the first time in 2013, to review its goals for the year, which include various carbon-footprint reducing actions and organizing educational efforts around promoting environmental awareness in Cranford. The topic of global warming provoked discussion about its political aspects, and whether or not the commission should promote it as a way to discuss climate change. "Agitating for global warming action and raising consensus on taking action on global warming," said Deputy Mayor Ed O'Malley, "should be our number one goal. Environmental Commission Meets Tonight: Jan. 7

Meeting starts at 7:30p.m. in room 204 of the Cranford Community Center at 220 Walnut Ave.

The Cranford Environmental Commission will hold it first meeting of 2013 in the Cranford Community Center at 7:30p.m.  Among the items on the agenda are discussion of goals for 2013 and a meeting with Cranford's mayor. At the meeting, the status in the case involved the Birchwood Avenue project, also will be discussed, as well as the annual report for 2012. Also planned for discussion are goals for an energy efficient township vehicle fleet, raising awareness of the Sustainable Jersey Grant for Backyard Composting Program, and the groups petition for a Complete Streets policy. The Complete Streets petition is an initiative to increase walk and bike friendly areas with the use of Sustainable Jersey grant funds.   ---- The following is an …

The Cranford Environmental Commission is expected to meet 10 times in 2013 with the first meeting on Jan. 7 and the last on Dec. 2.

Environmental Commission Report: Cranford Is 'Greener'

Local environmentalists' 2011 report touts success of anti-idling campaign, "My Green Cranford", other programs.

Cranford is getting "greener" every day, and according to a report released by the Environmental Commission, the efforts have just begun. The Cranford Environmental Commission recently released its Annual Report for 2011. The report lists many of the initiatives that the organization and the business community have completed in the past year. “We are very proud of our accomplishments this year, believing that, in a small way, they have enhanced the quality of life and the environment in Cranford. We are very grateful for the support of the Township Committee, in particular our liaison, Ed O’Malley,” Commission Chairman Nelson Dittmar said.
