President Obama and Gov. Christie will visit the Jersey Shore on Tuesday, according to The Record in Bergen County. This will be Obama's first visit to the area since Oct. 31, just after the storm struck. A full itinerary of the visit was not available. More information can be found here.

Do you agree with the U.S. Supreme Court's decision Thursday upholding most of President Obama's signature health care reform legislation? By a 5-4 vote, the justices upheld most of the act, although the opinion is a complicated one. The court upheld the requirement that every American purchase health insurance or else pay a penalty, as a tax decision and upheld it on those grounds, in an opinion written by Chief Justice Roberts. "Our precedent demonstrates that Congress has the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000 under the taxing power, and that Section 5000 need not be read to do more than impose a tax," Roberts wrote in one of the key sentences from the opinion. After months of debate, the twelve members of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, also known as the United States congressional “super-committee” has failed to reach a deal to cut 1.2 trillion dollars in spending. This means that automatic spending cuts will begin in 2013. Declaration will allow federal government to distribute disaster relief funds.
President Barack Obama declared New Jersey a major disaster area Wednesday afternoon, and the White House announced that the president will travel to north Jersey on Sunday to get a firsthand look at the flooding caused by Hurricane Irene. The declaration will allow the federal government to award FEMA assistance to local residents, and state and municipal governments, according to officials with the office of U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ-08). The president will make an appearance in Paterson, according to Pascrell, who is a former mayor of Paterson, one of the city's hardest-hit by flooding.
