  • On the article Is Traffic Safe Around the New Route 79 CVS?

    cynicinmarlboro

Right now traffic is about the same as CVS is not very busy anytime I pass it. That should change once QuickCheck is added. That intersection has always been a problem and with all the development over the years traffic has increased and it is sometimes backed up in every direction, including Tennent Road. What I have seen is that the delayed green out of CVS allows the left turners from Lloyd to start moving first, but when the light turns green out of CVS the left turners do not yield to a person leaving CVS and going straight up Lloyd. Yielding might make them miss the light and heaven forbid they should follow the rules of the road (seems left turners always feel they have the right of way at all the lights as soon as they turn green), This is an accident waiting to happen. Making it a three way light would be no better as the double light with Tennent will not allow traffic to move at all. For now it's lucky there are not more issues at the moment. I still think the development here was a very bad idea. It should have remained the wooden lot it was.

@Josh Pollak, not to insinuate you are anything but honorable, but I prefer to remain anonymous seeing as how vile people can be in their treatment of others in this town in all manner of anonymous forums - some, I truly believe, are in positions of authority. If you believe Mrs. Dean committed an ethics violation, so be it. I think this will go nowhere as well. And I won't go into the politics in this town. Too much on either side has been wrong with it for years.

It's not that I agree with COAH to begin with, but I find it interesting that Marlboro has the most to lose and this is a town that has allowed housing to spring up everywhere while amassing this amount and will never use it because of all the NIMBY arguments. It was why Marlboro sent the funds to other towns to use while they were able, but now the rules are changed. So what will Marlboro do with the funds they will not touch for the purpose they are intended for?

@Harry: if I recall there was finally a decision made that her paperwork WAS missing the data Mr. Dean complained about to begin with. Even if she did not vote on those items involving the company, she did err on not including it in her paperwork in running for office. She was given a $100 fine. That is a slap on the wrist to me.

One question: Mr. Pollak is a "resident and planning board member" but is he a democrat or republican. This might explain some things as a retaliation for the ethics charges against a councilperson and for which our own ethics board thought deserved a simple slap on the wrist.
I don't see an issue in having one's name associated to a donation. It is done everywhere and, in some cases, includes the name of a person's business or organization as well. In this case, it included a title. She is the VP. It's not as if she took the iPad from the district to donate it.
Even better, whereas the councilperson's transgression was handled very locally, this is going to the state board. Doesn't anyone find it ironic that an elected politician can get away with a locally made decision while an elected volunteer is automatically sent to a state board? I guess it's true, politicians do run under a different set of so-called ethics. There should be only one ethics commission to handle all of these complaints, but when you think about it there are so many complaints made all over the state they would probably be overwhelmed!

I know these positions are advertised in certain areas, but it is quite evident what went on Manalapan. Perhaps you have not dealt with the asst. principals in our schools, but my children and I have in the past. There are a few very respected and competent ones who, I would hope and assume, would want to further their careers. There was at least one in Marlboro who was overlooked for Marlboro's position last time in favor of a Wasser favorite. As for bad blood, that goes without saying when among all the asst. principals in the district you hire from outside rather than give someone the same chance that was given in Manalapan. You don't have to agree with my opinion, but that goes for the private sector as well. Yes, they all can look elsewhere. Perhaps that's what Sampson is looking for so he can have his own cronies in place, similar to what Wasser did.

@tom: thanks for letting me know about Mr. Land, but your explanation doesn't hold much water when looking to how they handled Manalapan. There might not have been a retirement there and am interim would be required, but that should not have prevented an outside search. So I say there are those in the district who might have been more than qualified. All I see is bad blood growing between those assts, who thought they might have a chance and Mr. Sampson. Not what one wants in such a large district.

Was there anything mentioned about the current principal, Mr. Land? Also wonder why no one was promoted from within as they quickly did in Manalapan. You would think with all the asst. principals in the district someone would be qualified enough. Or is it that Sampson is trying to make another statement about his authority?

Putting the candidates on the primary ballot just because they are running defeats the actual purpose of a primary. The sign ordinance is detailed enough, but right now there are still signs placed incorrectly by the ruling party. Their "over-zealous" volunteers (as stated by someone else) are still not following the rules. You would think the rules are simple enough to follow.

@Mel: whether the jobs are shipped overseas or they come here on work visas, the only thing it does for companies is save on salaries and benefits. It may or may not work and I have seen cases of both.

Teachers are special, but after all the years of fighting to be on par with other professions, which they now are, their demands need to stop. We still have a country that is continuously falling behind in education to others in the global economy. Now that the teachers are on par with everyone, it's time the whole educational system begins to turn this around and bring us back to number one. If it means more pressure on the teachers, so be it. We all have work stresses.
