Mike Huang, Neighbor

I'm Mike Huang, I've worked at several local newspapers in many different roles. I've been a writer, an editor, a designer, a photographer, a video producer, a manager and assisted with web content.

Having worked at some local newspapers, I've seen several former co-workers move their careers forward by joining Patch.com, even some that I've had the privilege of being a supervisor to. I believe that patch is a great opportunity to change the face of journalism as we see it now, in an industry that desperately needs to evolve and advance itself. That means pushing the boundaries by trying new things, and really taking full advantage of the web in ways that traditional local news companies are not willing to do, or just do not have the capacity to do. I believe the future strongly lies within video, strong video graphics, and video advertising revenue. Although I have not found an appropriate outlet for it yet, I also believe that the future includes more interactive elements, perhaps flash, perhaps something similar to the popular trends that social media has become so strongly associated with.
