Cranford Holds Final Reading of Walnut Ave. Speed Limit Ordinance

The township read the ordinance for the final time on Tuesday.

The final reading and public hearing on an ordinance to reduce the Walnut Avenue speed limit was held on Tuesday evening.

The Township of Cranford has been hoping to reduce the speed limit on Walnut Avenue from 35 to 25 miles per hour, but has hit a roadblock since it's a county road. The township is now hopeful that the county will approve the new limit.

Currently, the speed limit in front of Cranford Public Library is 25, but further down the road it is 35 miles per hour when school is not in session.

Freeholder B.J. Kowalski, a Cranford resident, has been pushing the speed limit change to the county. Committeeman Kevin Campbell said it is with a “glimmer of hope” that they can change the speed limit this time around thanks to Kowalski’s perseverance with the county.

Over the past couple of years, residents of Cranford have been urging the township to reduce the limit and now the next step is hoping the county will approve the change.
