WESTFIELD AREA Y NAEYC-ACCREDITED PRESCHOOL HAS NEW ENHANCED CURRICULUM

The Westfield Area Y Preschool located at the Robert and Virginia Bauer Branch, 422 East Broad Street in Westfield is pleased to announce a NEW, enhanced curriculum being offered this fall.

The NEW, enhanced curriculum includes:

  • 8-week swim lesson in all afternoon 3 and 4 year old classes (spring and fall).
  • Weekly gym class facilitated by a health and wellness specialist.
  • Parent/child music class included bi-weekly.
  • Spanish class included for all 4-year olds bi-weekly.
  • PLUS all the benefits of Y membership!

To be NAEYC-accredited, a childcare program must go through a process of self-study involving children, parents and teachers.  A variety of criteria related to providing a developmentally appropriate program must be met, including well-qualified and trained staff and strict health and safety standards.  Also, the program must provide a wealth of opportunities for parent involvement.  The Westfield Area Y Preschool program is committed to offering more learning programs to strengthen families and boost youth development.

The Westfield Area Y Preschool incorporates “The Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood” into their daily lesson plans.  The most important goal is to help the children become enthusiastic learners and encourage them to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts.  Creative Curriculum content areas include:  Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arts, Technology, Healthy Habits and Character Development.   Preschool also incorporates the Healthy U CATCH curriculum to teach children how to be healthy for a lifetime.  The partnership is a collaborative effort between the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance and the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, working together to combat childhood obesity through nutrition education, physical education and family involvement.

There are some spots available for September. Please contact Eileen Rooney at (908) 233-2700 x423 or email erooney@westfieldynj.org with questions or for more information about the Westfield Area Y Preschool or Kindergarten programs.
