WESTFIELD AREA Y ULTIMATE FRISBEE TEAM RECEIVES SPECIAL VISIT FROM NATIONAL CHAMPION

On October 14th, the Westfield Area Y Ultimate Frisbee Team was excited to receive a special visit from Brodie Smith, a 3-time Ultimate Frisbee National Champion. Brodie is famous for his Ultimate Frisbee trick shots and conducts clinics with the athletes.

The Westfield Area Y Fall 2013 Ultimate Frisbee Team consists of 70 participants between the ages of 11 and 14. “The fall season is dedicated to skill development and basic learning of the game in preparation for the more competitive spring season. Having Brodie Smith on site to share his knowledge of the game and teach new skills was a huge benefit to all of the players on the team,” states Marty Collett, Director of Youth, Teen and Camp Services at the Westfield Area Y.

Ultimate Frisbee began in 1969 as a simple game invented by a group of high school friends in Maplewood, NJ, but it has become one of the fastest growing sports in the US and is played all over the world. Combining the non-stop action of soccer with the aerial passing of football, the object of the game is to complete a pass into the endzone on a field set up similar to football.
