CFD Honors Memory of Firefighter Lost in Iraq

This week marks the eight anniversary of the passing of a firefighter who served in Iraq in 2004.

Inside Cranford Fire Department headquarters, a plaque honors a 20-year-old Cranford firefighter from Clark who lost his life nearly a decade ago.

According to the website Fallen Heroes of Operation Iraqi Freedom:

Army Pfc. Stephen C. Benish died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when he received enemy fire while on a dismounted patrol.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Howze, Korea. Died on November 28, 2004.
