Brief: Dub's Subs Coming to Cranford

Shop aims to create sandwiches fit for a small town.

It's the summertime, you're coming home from taking in the neighborhood pool with your friends and your stomach starts growling. It means a trip to the local hometown place for a bite to eat.

Dub's Subs, a sub shop created by Cranford resident John Wojtowicz, will aim to be that place in Cranford. Wojtowicz's vision, as described by Downtown Management Corporation director Kathleen Prunty, is to run  a low-key, no-frills operation selling tasty sandwiches that will create a following and will become a downtown staple.

"This is going to be your hometown sub shop," said Joanne Wescott, assistant manager of the Downtown Management Corporation.

Situated on North Avenue, just east of the Cranford Theater, Wojtowicz began construction on his new shop this month, although officials at the Downtown Management Corporation are uncertain about when he will open for business.

But Wescott said she believes he will do well when he opens, as he's done his homework. He took his time selecting the storefront – and the counter space he selected is prime for foot traffic stemming from crowds emerging three doors down from a movie at the popular Cranford Theatre.

"He's got himself a nice spot there," Westcott said.
