Cranford Learning Center Teaches at Each Student’s Level

Eye Level Learning Center is now open on North Avenue.

Eye Level Learning Center is an individualized tutoring center for children ages three to seniors in high school that guarantees one-on-one time with an instructor.

What makes Eye Level different than other centers is its focus on critical thinking and applications of math in real life, among other things, according to owner Alexandra Medina.

Medina said that the goal of the center is to give students a positive experience that is not intimidating or scary.

The look of center and its workbooks are made colorful and fun for the students. For younger students, each workbook ends with a puzzle to make applications more interesting.

“We want it to be fun,” she said. “We want it be something they enjoy.”

Eye Level Learning Center started in Korea over 30 years ago as ‘Enopi’ and has been developing its curriculum over those years, Medina said.

The concept behind the center stems from a story of a teacher visiting a museum the day before he was to take his students. The teacher viewed all the artwork on his knees, so that he could see the works on the level of the children. Thus came the idea of “Eye Level,” a center where teachers brought themselves down to the level of the student to provide a more understanding learning experience.

Offered at the center are math, reading, writing, handwriting and speaking.

Medina said everything at Eye Level is based on the individual student, so if the student is looking for help or enrichment, the center will work with them.

“We want to foster independence,” she expressed. “And encourage students to be self-starters and critical thinkers.”

Each session is an hour long and students are guaranteed one-on-one time with their teacher. If students do not need help with whatever they are working on, teachers will find an activity to help students better understand what they are learning, Medina said.

Students are also provided with an in-class book and an at-home book, but these books can cross over for students who may need more assistance with one than the other.

The center recently opened in May and is still in the process of growing their cliental, she said. The first 30 students who enroll at Eye Level will receive free registration.
