Fatality Shuts Trains on Raritan Valley Line

Alerts from NJ Transit issued a little after 7 a.m.

A fatality near the Somerville train station slowed or shut down service to multiple trains on Thursday morning, according to information from NJ Transit.

NJ Transit's website says a "trespasser fatality near Somerville" is causing the delays or cancellations. No more information on the fatality was available on the site as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

  • Raritan Valley Line trains are subject to 15-20 minute delays, due to trespasser fatality near Somerville, according to an alert issued at 7:12 a.m
  • Raritan Valley Line train No. 5412, the 6:49 a.m. from Plainfield Station is up to 25 minute delay, due to trespasser fatality, according to an alert issued at 7:12 a.m.
  • Raritan Valley Line train No. 5420, the 7:18 a.m. from Raritan Station is cancelled. Passengers to train No. 5422 the 7:37 a.m. from Raritan Valley Station, according to an alert issued at 7:07 a.m.
  • Raritan Valley Line train No. 5409 the 6:50 a.m. from Bound Brook Station is cancelled due to trespasser fatality near Somerville. Passengers to NJT bus service (Nos. 113, 114, 117, 59, 65, 66), according to an alert issued at 7:07 a.m.
  • Raritan Valley Line train No. 5710 the 6:22 a.m. from Somerville Station is cancelled due to trespasser fatality. Passengers to No. 5412 the 6:34 a.m. from Somerville & NJT substitute bus service, according to an alert issued at 7:07 a.m.
