Greyhound Friends of New Jersey Fundraiser Rescheduled

The event will be held Dec. 8 and 9.

The Greyhound Friends of New Jersey 16th Annual Craft Show & Pet Show, the group’s largest fundraiser of the year, has been rescheduled due to Hurricane Sandy. The event will be held December 8 and 9 at the Westfield Armory 500 Rahway Avenue, Westfield, NJ. Hours are Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

This event is crucial in the efforts to rescue, provide healthcare and find safe, loving homes for retired racing greyhounds. Linda Lyman, GFNJ president said, "Although the hurricane forced us to reschedule our weekend, this event will once again offer pet lovers a good time.  We are so pleased to see the Craft Show continue to grow, and we welcome our Presenting Sponsors: NorthStar VETS, Shreiber Animal Foundation Enterprise (SAFE), and Valley Veterinary Hospital. We are grateful to JL Media, Inc., Ace of Spays, Garden State Veterinary Specialists, Ray Acosta Home Improvements, Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, and Round Valley Animal Hospital for their sponsorship. We rely on donations to do our work since adoption fees don't come close to covering our expenses for each dog we rescue. Our goal is to surpass last year’s total of saving and finding homes for 300 greys. These sweet dogs make excellent pets and just want someone to love them."

Funds raised at the Show help pay for the care of hundreds of greyhounds before they find homes, including veterinary care, kennel bills and transportation. The funds also pay for special medical care including orthopedic surgery for greyhounds who break their legs on the track during races. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed or neutered, receive dental care, heartworm testing and inoculations. When a greyhound is in dire need, GFNJ is always there.

The Show offers families a chance to enjoy an array of vendors offering a wide variety of items for people and their pets, a bake sale with goodies for every sweet tooth, and an exciting raffle. Santa will be there to pose for digital photos with pets. Have lunch in “The Grey Café.”  It's a perfect time to pick up holiday gifts for your two or four-legged best friends and help this wonderful cause. And, of course, leashed pets are welcome.

Back by popular demand, singer/songwriter Carolyn Messina is scheduled to entertain our guests with her lovely voice.
