NJ American Water Asks County Residents To Conserve Water Due to Main Break

The water company is urging residents of Union County to curb outdoor water use while repairs are made to a water main in Scotch Plains.

The following alert was issued by New Jersey American Water Tuesday afternoon.

New Jersey American Water crews began emergency repairs this morning on a along Portland Avenue near Watchung View Place. It is estimated that repairs will be completed within the next 48 to 72 hours.

New Jersey American Water advises customers in the following communities to curtail outdoor water use while emergency repairs are underway on the 48-inch water main. Please discontinue lawn watering and conserve water indoors until further notice. While repairs are made, customers may experience low water pressure: Fanwood, Green Brook, Plainfield City, North Plainfield, Scotch Plains, Warren, Watchung, Clark, Cranford, Garwood, Hillside, Kenilworth, Mountainside, Roselle, Roselle Park, Union and Westfield.

Once repairs are completed, customers may experience cloudy water and should simply run their water until it’s clear before use.
