Why am I a Candidate for Union County Freeholder by Ira Geiger

Back in March, as I was gathering signatures to run for the office Of Union County Freeholder, a lady at the Summit GOP meeting said she remembered when they started the Board of Union County Chosen Freeholders, and that we don’t need them; that’s the reason our taxes are so high.

The board exists and someone has to serve on it.  But that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be accountable to the public or have a free hand in distributing the money that’s available. Right now, the Union County Board is all Democrats.  Someone must serve on the Board to see what’s going on and report it back to the people.

America  is not a one party system, neither is the state, and neither is Union County.  Union County needs more balanced representation.   Republicans should have the chance to have their voices heard on issues such as road maintenance and parks.  Right now, Union County’s roads are in pretty poor shape.  We advocate for better road maintenance and repairs, rather than on free benefits for the Democrat freeholders.

I spent five years in Maryland as a Special Education teacher.  When I returned to New Jersey, I taught in various schools in Middlesex and Union Counties.  I live in Union, a major center of trade and commerce in the county.  I’ve traveled Union County’s roads, taught in its schools, and met with its people. I understand the vast amount of diversity our county upholds. With our society simultaneously changing with the diversity makeup, I want to be a voice for all the people in the county, not just a select few like the current board.

In the colonial times, the Dutch and English were drawn to this area because of its access to the sea and the opportunities for trade. They developed the first colonial settlements in this area because of its natural beauty, vast abundance of fertile fields and natural resources, and offer of personal freedom.

Personal freedom is still a pertinent issue today and fair representation, even at the county level, is vital to preserving that freedom.  As the Union County Freeholder Candidate, I will represent and listen to every Union County resident; because the current incumbents don’t do what they say they're going to really do. Our team of Marc Krauss, Mark Martini and myself will bring that change and bring the change that is really needed to Union County and make this county one that we can truly be proud of.
