Cranford Awarded Sustainable Jersey Certification

The township was presented the certification on Tuesday.

The Township of Cranford has been certified as a Sustainable Jersey community at the bronze level. This is the third year Cranford has been certified.

Mayor Tom Hannen and members of the Green Team accepted the award at a luncheon on Tuesday in Atlantic City. Cranford is one of 117 towns out of 399 registered municipalities that have received bronze level certification.

“I am honored to accept the award on behalf of the Green Team and thank them for all of their efforts over the last two years,” Mayor Hannen said. “This is a significant achievement and residents of Cranford should be proud that they live in a Sustainable Community. ”

The town met the required sustainability actions by meeting a minimum of 150 action points by reaching 225 points. The Green Team has to complete at least 2 out of 7 priority action options. The Township completed an energy audit for the Community Center and an inventory of Municipal vehicles. Additionally, the Township completed 20 other actions including the Complete Streets program and creating a community garden.

“In becoming a Sustainable Jersey certified town, Cranford has demonstrated tremendous leadership and is a testament to how much we can accomplish with impressive sustainability initiatives in New Jersey,” Chair of the Sustainable Jersey Board of Trustees, Pam Mount, said.
