UPDATE: Police Continue Search for Suspect in Armed Robbery on Walnut Avenue

According to reports, a woman was robbed a knifepoint.

A male suspect who allegedly robbed a woman at knifepoint at about 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 is still at large, Cranford Police Lt. James Wozniak said.

The Cranford Police Department requested the assistance of the Union County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit to help them track the suspect. The search was unsuccessful.

The incident occurred in a dark, rear parking lot area near Walnut Avenue and Raritan Road. The woman was reportedly robbed of her wallet by a male suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately six feet tall. He was believed to be wearing a jacket and blue jeans. According to Wozniak, the victim was approached by the suspect, pulled out a knife and went through her purse, taking cash and credit cards from her wallet. He then fled on foot on Colin Kelly Street.

The K-9 unit was called to help local police search the area following the incident, with negative results.

"As of right now, we are attempting to put leads together," Wozniak said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to contact the Detective Bureau at 908-272-2222.

I have to say that, that area is usually very safe. There have been other incidents there but not in awhile (I think).

We are kidding ourselves if we expect this guy to be brought to justice. I have no doubt the CPD is doing their best, but unless somebody got a plate number or he dropped his own wallet at the scene, I really don't think we should expect much. We are easy pickin's here in NJ after all.

Agreed Jim. I'll take a guess this guy ran right over the Cranford border to Roselle. It is a super quick run if you don't have a car and he did flee on foot. The area behind those stores is seriously poorly lit.
