UPDATE: Police Continue Search for Suspect in Armed Robbery on Walnut Avenue

According to reports, a woman was robbed a knifepoint.

A male suspect who allegedly robbed a woman at knifepoint at about 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 is still at large, Cranford Police Lt. James Wozniak said.

The Cranford Police Department requested the assistance of the Union County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit to help them track the suspect. The search was unsuccessful.

The incident occurred in a dark, rear parking lot area near Walnut Avenue and Raritan Road. The woman was reportedly robbed of her wallet by a male suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately six feet tall. He was believed to be wearing a jacket and blue jeans. According to Wozniak, the victim was approached by the suspect, pulled out a knife and went through her purse, taking cash and credit cards from her wallet. He then fled on foot on Colin Kelly Street.

The K-9 unit was called to help local police search the area following the incident, with negative results.

"As of right now, we are attempting to put leads together," Wozniak said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to contact the Detective Bureau at 908-272-2222.
