Car Carrier Strikes Centennial Ave Overpass, Loses Vehicle Into Oncoming Traffic

The accident closed a portion of Centennial for about three hours on Monday.

A car carrier truck struck the Centennial Avenue overpass on Monday morning, when a vehicle it was carrying fell off into oncoming traffic, according to Cranford Police Sgt. Gerard Quinn.

The vehicles on the carrier were too high, according to police, causing it to hit the Conrail railroad overpass on Centennial around 11:14 a.m. In addition to the first vehicle falling off, a second vehicle was also damaged.

No one was injured, Quinn said. The driver was issued multiple summonses.

He added that Conrail responded to the accident and determined the overpass could safely remain open. Centennial Avenue was closed until 2 p.m. to investigate the scene.
