Fire Leaves Balmiere Parkway Home Uninhabitable

Two people were safely evacuated, but a firefighter suffered a minor knee injury during the blaze.

A fire broke out in a Balmiere Parkway home on Saturday, causing extensive damage and rendering it uninhabitable, according to Cranford Fire Chief Leonard Dolan, III.

The Cranford Fire Department received the initial call of a fire in the home of 3 Balmiere Parkway at 11:28 a.m., Dolan said. Upon the department’s arrival, there was heavy smoke from a fire that originated in the basement and extended up the back wall of the home to the first and second levels, as well as the attic, Dolan added.

One elderly resident and a contractor were both evacuated safely from the home. However, one firefighter suffered a minor knee injury while battling the fire. The scene was cleared at around 2 p.m., according to Dolan.
