North Avenue Bank Robbed at Gunpoint

Cranford Police are searching for the man responsible for the Saturday robbery of Garden State Community Bank.

A man entered Garden State Community Bank at North Avenue East on Saturday, displayed a handgun while demanding cash and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, according to Cranford Police.

At approximately 1:35 p.m., a black male in his mid 20s to mid-30s between 5-foot-11 and 6-feet tall fled toward North Avenue after taking the cash in a black plastic bag, Detective Sgt. Gerard Quinn said. The man was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue long sleeve shirt and a black baseball cap, according to police.

The investigation is being conducted by Cranford detectives who are coordinating with the FBI in Newark, who believe this could relate to other robberies in the area, according to Police Chief Eric Mason.

“The suspect here should be considered armed and dangerous and we are asking for the public’s help in identifying him,” Mason said.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Robert Montague at 908-709-7344.
