Police Blotter: Man Arrested For Allegedly Possessing 14 Bags of Heroin

This week's Cranford Police reports.

Cranford Police arrested Andrew Altman, 40, of Howell for allegedly posessing heroin and a hypodermic syringe around 1:12 a.m. on March 27, according to Sgt. Det. Gerard Quinn of the Cranford Police Department.

Ptl. Robert Jordan pulled over Altman for not wearing a seatbelt by the Garden State Parkway entrance on North Avenue. While interviewing the driver, Jordan located 14 bags and a used syringe on his person.

  • Police arrested 20-year-old Joseph Coler of Clark for allegedly possessing marijuana around 10 p.m. on March 29. Ptl. Spencer Durkin first pulled over Coler on Walnut Avenue by Behnert Place for driving without headlights on. While talking to the driver he  noticed suspected marijuana and a pipe on the floor of the vehicle.  
  • Police arrested 18-year-old Gerrod Martin of East Orange for allegedly possessing marijuana on North Avenue East by the Garden State Parkway on March 30 around 9 p.m. Durkin first pulled over Martin for missing a license plate. While speaking with the driver, Durkin noticed a bag of suspected marijuana in Martin's jacket pocket.
  • Police apprehended 23-year-old Michael Carrato of South Amboy for allegedly possessing under 50 grams of marijuana on March 30 around 8:34 p.m. Durkin first pulled over Carrato's vehicle on North Avenue by the Garden State Parkway for a missing license plate, and noticed a bag of marijuana on the floor of the vehicle while talking to the driver.
  • Police arrested 23-year-old Karen Koch of Clark for alledgedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident on March 31 around 7:26 p.m. Police were called to South Avenue East by High Street on the report that a parked vehicle had been struck, witnesses describing a red Ford Mustang that left the area southbound on Walnut Ave. prior to police arrival. Minutes later police located Koch's vehicle on Lenhome drive matching the witness's desciption.
  • Police arrested 71-year-old Robert E. Lee of Roselle on North Avenue East by Carpenter Place for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol on April 2 around 10:23 p.m. Durkin first pulled over Lee , driving a 2000 Ford Windstar, for erratic driving and crossing the center line in the roadway.
  • Police apprehended  36-year-old Richard Podzielny on Commerce Drive near Jackson Drive for allegedly driving while under the influence of alochol on April 3 around 10:26 p.m. Police first responded to a commercial parking lot on Commerce Drive on a report that an employee was attempting to leave the parking lot in a 2011 Toyota Camry while intoxicated. Police arrested Podzielny in the lot.
