Police Blotter: Police Investigate Two Burglaries and One Attempted Break-In

Cranford Police activity for the week.

The Cranford Police Department is currently investigating two burglaries that occurred in the township this week. The first occurred on June 13th on Glenwood Road between the hours of  7:15 p.m. and 1:15 a.m. Suspect(s) entered the home through an unlocked rear sliding door and stole a 46" LCD television.

The second burglary occurred on June 14th on West Holly Street between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:29 p.m. Unknown suspect(s) entered a third story apartment through an unlocked window adjacent to the fire escape. Several items of jewelry valued at about $500 were taken from the residence. Anyone with information on either of these incidents should contact Detective Ryan Greco at 908-709-7339.

Thursday, June 9th

  • Michael West, 39, of Roselle, was arrested for Contempt of Court. West was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Raritan Road near Oraton Drive, when Ptl. Spencer Durkin discovered an outstanding criminal warrant from Rahway. West was released after posting bail.
  • Kerlens Genelien, 23, of Roselle, was arrested for Contempt of Court. Ptl. Daniel Norton arrested Genelien on an outstanding traffic warrant from Cranford. Genelien was transferred to the custody of the Union County Sheriff's Department.
  • Allen Thomas, 45, of Westfield, was arrested for Contempt of Court. Thomas was stopped for motor vehicle violations on South Avenue near Washington Place, when Ptl. Christopher DiFabio discovered outstanding criminal warrants from Westfield and the Union County Sheriff's Department. Thomas was transferred to the custody of the Union County Sheriff's Department.

Friday, June 10th

  • Robin Early, 29, of Union, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Early was stopped on the Garden State Parkway for speeding and erratic driving. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Daniel Norton arrested Early for DWI. She was processed and released with a court date of June 15th in Cranford Municipal Court. Early was also cited for Open Container of Alcohol, Speeding and Careless Driving.

Saturday, June 11th

  • Jaime Vanegas, 20, of Linden, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia. Vanegas was stopped on Raritan Road for a seatbelt violation. After detecting an odor of burnt marijuana, Ptl. Spencer Durkin located a small amount of marijuana on Vanegas, as well as a suspected marijuana pipe in the vehicle. Vanegas was processed and released with a court date of June 15th in Cranford Municipal Court. Vanegas was also cited for Failure to Wear Seatbelt and Maintenance of Lamps.

Sunday, June 12th

  • Andrew Nadel, 23, of Linden, was arrested for Possession of Heroin and Possession of Paraphernalia. Nadel was stopped for an inoperable headlight. Following a brief investigation, Ptl. Daniel Norton and Sgt. Guy Patterson recovered four folds of heroin from the passenger, Nadel. He was processed and released with a court date of June 15th in Superior Court. The vehicle's driver, a 26 year old female from Cranford, was issued summonses for Maintenance of Lamps and Suspended Driver.
  • Akram Reid, 19, of Roselle, was arrested for Contempt of Court. Ptl. Kelly Rieder arrested Reid on an outstanding criminal warrant from Cranford. Reid was transferred to the Union County Jail in lieu of bail.
  • James Nowak, 50, of Elizabeth, was arrested for Possession of Prescription Drugs, Possession of Marijuana (less than 50 grams), and Possession of Paraphernalia. Bicyclist Nowak was stopped on Raritan Road near Coleman Avenue for Failure to Use a Lamp, when Ptl. Brian Lopez discovered multiple warrants for his arrest. Subsequent to the arrest, he was found to be in possession of 31 pills (suspected Ultracet painkillers) and a ziplock bag with suspected marijuana. He was processed on the narcotics charges with a court date of June 15th in Superior Court. Nowak was also processed on warrants from Cranford, Aberdeen, Newark, Jersey City, Roxbury, and Bayonne.

Monday, June 13th

  • Jeffrey Sneed, 27, of Oakland, California, was arrested outside the Cranford Municipal Building when he was observed urinating on the walkway and railing between the Police entrance and Springfield Avenue.  He was processed and released with a court date of June 15th in Cranford Municipal Court.
  • Edward Nadella, 30, of Linden, was arrested for Contempt of Court. Ptl. Robert Jordan arrested Nadella when he turned himself in on an outstanding traffic warrant from Cranford Municipal Court.  He was processed and released after posting bail.

Wednesday, June 15th

  • Cranford Police responded to an Arnet Street residence when an alert neighbor observed a male suspect attempting to force entry through a side window.  The suspect fled the scene on foot prior to police units arrival and no entry was gained at the residence.  The suspect was described as a white male, thin and tall (approximately 6 feet), with short dark hair, possibly in his early 20s.  He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white/blue horizontal striped shirt.  Police believe the suspect fled south on Orchard Street towards Ramsgate Rd., possibly entering a waiting vehicle.
