Police Blotter: Suspect Arrested For Hindering Apprehension

The following information was obtained from the Cranford Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Sept. 13

  • At 12:04 a.m., Cranford Police Officer Christopher DiFabio stopped 2001 Oldsmobile in the area of South Avenue and Lincoln Avenue West for driving with the vehicles high beams on. While speaking with the driver, Officer DiFabio detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the interior of the vehicle. After a brief on scene investigation, Officer DiFabio arrested and charged Miguel A. Golden, 21, of Plainfield, with driving while intoxicated and also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to dim bright lamps and maintenance of lamps. Golden was released with Municipal Court proceedings pending.

Sept. 21

  • A Clark resident was arrested at 12:58 a.m. for allegedly driving while intoxicated. According to reports, Officer Steven D’Ambola stopped 2009 Chevy Colorado in the area of Raritan Road and Colin Kelly Court after he observed the vehicle screech its tires and skid sideways. While speaking with the driver, Officer D’Ambola detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the interior of the vehicle. After a brief on scene investigation, Officer D'Ambola arrested and charged Anthony J. Shandra with driving while intoxicated and also issued a motor vehicle summonse for careless driving. Golden was released with Municipal Court proceedings
    pending.

  • At 2:11 a.m., Officer Steven D’Ambola stopped 2007 Nissan Altima in the area of Walnut Avenue and Lenhome Drive after he observed the vehicle cross the double yellow center line, screech its tires and skid sideways. While speaking with the driver, Margaret Schwartz, 54 of Cranford, Officer D’Ambola detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the interior of the vehicle. After a brief on scene investigation, Officer D'Ambola  arrested and charged Schwartz with driving while intoxicated and also issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving. Schwartz was released with Municipal Court proceedings pending.
  • At 12:07 a.m. Officer Robert Jordan stopped a 2010 Kio Rio in the area of South Avenue and Washington Place when he observed a crack in the rear drivers side tail light. Upon conducting an on scene investigation, the driver was being evasive and provided an age that did not match what was provided on his learners permit. The driver was eventually identified as Christopher D. Clemente, 22, of Plainfield and he was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension. It was also determined that Clemente had an outstanding criminal warrant out of Watchung in the amount of $400. Clemente was also issued motor vehicle summonses for maintenance of lamps and failure to exhibit a valid vehicle registration. Clemente posted bail and was released with court proceedings pending.

Sept. 24

  • At 3:47 p.m., Officer Spencer Durkin stopped a 1999 Dodge Durango in the area of Centennial Avenue and Cayuga Road when the driver made an illegal turn. Upon conducting a roadside investigation, Officer Durkin detected the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. Continuing the investigation, Officer Durkin arrested the passenger of the vehicle, Nathan Thomas, 33, of Newark, and charged him with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana possession of CDS paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to turn. Thomas was released with Municipal Court proceedings pending.
